We used Slack for primary team communication at Stack, and for our Stack Community, we tried utilizing Facebook Groups. At some point, we noticed that Discord was among the most frequently used apps in Stack by our users. Interestingly, none of us in the team were using it. So, I decided to check it out.
In just a week, I grew to like Discord so much that we started using one Discord server for both community building and primary team communication. It became our virtual office, and we've been using it for the past three years. Now, I firmly believe that any B2C team aspiring to build a strong community can also follow the same approach - use one Discord server, organized in channels, for both team and community. This way, the community is always just one click away, which increases engagement for everyone, including team members.
With this experience in mind, I plan to write an article where I summarize how we made this successful transition.
