The modren day internet is quite fucked up. Essentially, it's become an enormous vortex of attention, sucking us into an endless cycle of distraction.
You open a social network app, watch a single stupid but oddly captivating reel – perhaps a car accident or something – and just like that, your newsfeed is overrun with similar, engaging but ultimately meaningless content. And that is merely the least damaging aspect of it. Just a few months ago, when NFTs were in hype, the entire internet was a fertile ground for scammers, bots, fake accounts, and more.
And don't get me started on all the fake news and misleading information that people on both sides of the aisle are sharing.
In this article, I aim to investigate the root cause of this issue. Why is the modern internet so flawed, and is there a potential solution? Could we turn it into a tool that assists our species in developing and progressing, rather than spiraling into this pit of superficiality characterized by ten-second reels and becoming a divisive tool that seems to be designed to incite hatred and discord among us?
